"Ye
lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye
fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive
not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts."
James 4:2-3
How many times do we hope and wish for things, yet
neglect to pray and ask for them? I can't count the number of times that
I have thought to ask the Lord for something, yet I didn't simply
because I have a mindset of "I can't ask Him that! God wouldn't want to
hear about that!" Big news for me, God DOES want to hear about that! He
WANTS me to be dependent on Him! He wants me to bring it ALL to Him and
give it to Him for His will to be done, in ALL things! Nothing is too
big for God, most will agree on that one, but the flipside is, nothing
is too small or trivial for God either!
Selfish asking is what gets in the way of things most of the time, I
think. We ask for things, we want things so that WE can be happy. There
is nothing wrong with being happy, but sometimes God wants to bring us
to that place where we find a servant's heart in material things before
we are ready to take charge of what He has in store for us. In prayer,
we must be sure to always submit to the will of God, and we must ALWAYS
esteem others before ourselves, in prayer and out, but we must also not
be afraid to make our requests known to God. Yes, God knows our hearts
and He knows what we want, what we need, and what we desire, but He
still tells us to ask, seek, and knock. Why? Because our God is a
personal God and desires communion with us, above all else. That is why
Jesus came to pave the way to Heaven with His blood for us filthy
sinners; because God so loved us and desired communion with us, and He
knew that this was the only way for that to happen. ♥
